PDF Menu Linker is a small admin-only plugin that makes it easy to add and manage PDF links in navigation menus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

It adds a dedicated PDFs<\/strong> panel to Appearance \u2192 Menus<\/strong>, and a Replace PDF<\/strong> control on PDF menu items, so you can swap files without recreating menu items or touching URLs manually.<\/p>\n\n

    • PHP 7.4 or higher<\/li>\n
    • A user role with permission to manage menus (typically users who can edit_theme_options<\/code>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      Usage<\/h3>\n\n

      Add a new PDF menu item<\/h4>\n\n
        \n
      1. In the WordPress admin, go to Appearance \u2192 Menus<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. Ensure a menu is selected (or create one and save it).<\/li>\n
      3. In the Add menu items<\/strong> column, open the PDFs<\/strong> panel.<\/li>\n
      4. Click Select PDF<\/strong> and choose a file from the Media Library (PDFs only).<\/li>\n
      5. Optionally adjust Link Text<\/strong> and Link Title<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      6. Click Add to Menu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      7. A new Custom Link<\/strong> pointing at the PDF will appear at the bottom of the menu structure and will open in a new tab on the front end.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

        Replace the PDF for an existing menu item<\/h4>\n\n

        1. In Appearance \u2192 Menus<\/strong>, locate a Custom Link<\/strong> whose URL ends with .pdf<\/code>.<\/li>\n
        2. Expand the menu item.<\/li>\n
        3. Click Replace PDF<\/strong> next to the URL field.<\/li>\n
        4. Choose a new PDF from the Media Library and confirm.<\/li>\n
        5. The URL field updates to the new PDF, while Navigation Label<\/strong> and Title Attribute<\/strong> remain unchanged.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n

          1. Upload the pdf-menu-linker<\/code> folder to the \/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/code> directory, or install the plugin via the Plugins screen.<\/li>\n

            Does this plugin change how menus render on the front end?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

            No. The plugin only runs in the admin and creates standard custom menu items that WordPress already knows how to render.<\/p><\/dd>\n

            Where are PDFs and menu items stored?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

            PDFs are normal media attachments in the Media Library, and menu items are standard nav_menu_item<\/code> posts with their usual meta fields. The plugin does not create custom tables.<\/p><\/dd>\n\n<\/dl>\n\n\n
