  • Pass your discounted rate on to customers, or show retail and keep the difference
  • Markup percentage and flat handling fee
  • Book the service the customer picked with one click, or automatically in the background when an order reaches Processing or Completed

  • Several ship-from locations, chosen per order
  • Optional box packing into the box sizes you use
  • Customs information for cross-border shipments, with per-product HS codes
  • Signature, Saturday delivery and hold-for-pickup options, and scheduled carrier pickups

What you need

  • A Sure As Ship account and an API key from it
  • A ship-from address in Canada, or in the US for US-registered accounts
  • Shipments are billed by Sure As Ship to your account. The plugin itself is free. A test API key books sandbox labels that are never charged, so you can try everything first.

External services

This plugin needs the Sure As Ship API (https://sureasship.com/api/ecommerce/v1), operated by Sure As Ship, to work. Nothing is sent until you save an API key, and nothing is sent that is not needed for the action below.

  • At checkout and on the cart page, to show rates: the ship-from postal code, province and country; the destination postal code, city, province, country and company name; the weight and dimensions of each item in the cart; and your rate settings (carriers, packing method and boxes, delivery options). For a destination outside the ship-from country, each cart item’s name, price, quantity, weight, HS code and country of manufacture is also sent, so prepaid US duties can be estimated. No customer name, street address, email or phone number is sent to get rates.
  • When a shipment is booked (by you, or automatically if you turn that on): the ship-from address, phone and store admin email; the customer’s name, company, shipping address, phone and email, which the carrier needs for the label; item weights and dimensions; your order ID as a reference; and, for cross-border shipments, each item’s name, value, quantity, weight, HS code and country of manufacture.
  • When you test the connection, save settings, or open an order: your API key, to read your account’s name, billing status and allowed ship-from countries, and the order’s labels, customs documents, and each shipment’s status and carrier scans.
  • When you create a return, void a shipment, download a label or click Refresh tracking: the Sure As Ship shipment or return ID. Refresh tracking asks Sure As Ship to check with the carrier now.

Sure As Ship passes shipment details to the carrier you choose (Canada Post, FedEx, UPS or Purolator) so it can carry the parcel.

  • Sure As Ship terms of service: https://sureasship.com/terms
  • Sure As Ship privacy policy: https://sureasship.com/privacy

Tracking links in the order screen and customer emails point to the carrier’s own tracking page (canadapost-postescanada.ca, fedex.com, ups.com or purolator.com); they are only visited when someone clicks them.

Installazione

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New, search for “Sure As Ship”, then install and activate it. WooCommerce must be active.
  2. Sign in at sureasship.com and create an API key under API Keys. Use a test key first if you like.
  3. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Sure As Ship. Paste the key, click Test Connection, check your ship-from location, choose carriers, and save.
  4. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping zones, edit a zone (for example “Canada”), click “Add shipping method” and choose “Sure As Ship”.

Customers in that zone now see live rates at checkout.

FAQ

Do I need a Sure As Ship account?

Yes. Rates and labels come from your Sure As Ship account, and shipments are billed to it. Sign up at sureasship.com.

Which carriers are supported?

Canada Post, FedEx, UPS and Purolator. Choose which ones to quote under Enabled Carriers.

Does it work with the block checkout?

Yes. Rates appear in both the Cart and Checkout blocks and the classic checkout.

Can I test without being charged?

Yes. Create a test API key (it starts with sas_test_). Rates are real, but bookings use carrier sandboxes and are never charged.

What happens if Sure As Ship can’t be reached?

If you enable the fallback, customers see the flat rate you set. The same applies if Sure As Ship cannot quote for your account (it is suspended, or it is BYOC-only with no carrier account set up), and an admin notice tells you why. You then book those orders from the order screen with “Book with Sure As Ship”. If a destination or cart cannot be shipped at all, no Sure As Ship rate is shown.

What if a product has no dimensions or weight?

The default dimensions (12x8x6 in) and weight (0.5 lb) in the settings are used. Add real dimensions to your products for accurate rates.

Can I ship orders that used flat rate or free shipping?

Yes. Open the order and click “Book with Sure As Ship” to see live rates and pick a service.

Is shipping taxed?

Each Sure As Ship shipping method in a zone has its own Tax Status setting, like any WooCommerce shipping method.

I installed an earlier version from sureasship.com. How do I switch?

Install this plugin and activate it. It switches the old copy off automatically, and your settings, orders and shipments carry over. Then delete the old copy (it is listed as “Sure As Ship for WooCommerce” with version 1.x).

Changelog

2.0.12

  • Tweak: When U.S. duties can’t be estimated at checkout because a product has no HS tariff code, an admin notice says so, links each product to fix, and points to the default HS code setting. It clears once a U.S. quote estimates the duties
  • Tweak: When Sure As Ship refuses to book a U.S. shipment for a missing HS code, the error names the items in Sure As Ship’s own words and says where to add the HS code in WooCommerce

2.0.11

  • Fix: When the carrier won’t cancel a shipment’s pickup, Void Shipment says the pickup is still scheduled (so the driver may still come) and notes it on the order, instead of reporting success
  • Tweak: Test Connection warns when your store currency differs from your Sure As Ship billing currency (checkout would otherwise show no Sure As Ship rates), and the warning and admin notice say how to fix it: set the store currency, or switch the billing currency in Company settings before your first shipment
  • Tweak: When Sure As Ship suspends your account, the admin notice gives the reason in Sure As Ship’s own words (for overdue invoices, paying in full restores the account)

2.0.10

  • New: The order screen shows where each parcel is (Delivered, In transit, Out for delivery and so on) as Sure As Ship reports it, instead of always saying Booked
  • New: Carrier scans (what happened, where and when) are listed under each shipment, and a Refresh tracking button checks with the carrier now
  • Tweak: A service without tracking (Canada Post Small Packet) says so and offers no refresh
  • Fix: When the carrier hasn’t confirmed a void, Void Shipment says so (the label may still be live, so don’t use it) and notes it on the order, instead of reporting success

2.0.9

  • New: The carrier pickup window the carrier agreed to (fitted to its own collection hours) is shown on the order and noted when the shipment is booked
  • Tweak: Pickup notes and settings name the carrier: each carrier makes its own pickup visit and charges its own fee, once per pickup date from each address
  • Fix: When Sure As Ship cannot quote for your account (suspended, or BYOC-only with no carrier account set up), checkout shows your fallback rate instead of no rate at all, and an admin notice says why

2.0.8

  • New: When a booking costs more than the checkout quote because of a carrier pickup fee, the order note names the fee
  • Tweak: Carrier Pickup settings say Canada Post pickups are supported, that pickup fees are billed to you once per stop per day (never to customers), and which pickups are free
  • Tweak: Pickup time settings explain that each carrier fits your window to its own collection hours (Canada Post collects 12:00 to 16:00)

2.0.7

  • Fix: Cross-border checkout quotes are refreshed when the cart’s value or the store currency changes, so the prepaid duty is never quoted on an old cart value

2.0.6

  • New: Export declaration number field on the order screen for Canadian exports outside the US (CBSA CERS proof of report), sent with the booking
  • Fix: A refused booking now says what to fix (export declaration, customs description, currency or carrier account) instead of always blaming the address
  • Fix: Customs values are sent with their currency, so they are no longer read as the account’s billing currency
  • Fix: Amounts on the order screen (quotes, shipment cost, price breakdown) are shown in the currency your Sure As Ship account is billed in
  • Fix: Checkout checks the currency of every rate, and hides any rate that does not state one

2.0.5

  • Tweak: Customs item values are sent to Sure As Ship in cents

2.0.4

  • Fix: Canadian addresses are booked with the province their postal code belongs to, so an order with a mis-picked province is no longer refused at booking
  • Fix: a background booking that fails is listed in a notice on the WooCommerce and order screens, with the reason and a link to each order
  • Fix: a pickup window that closes before it opens is refused, and carrier pickup is switched off so bookings keep working
  • Fix: unticking “Enable Sure As Ship Shipping” now hides Sure As Ship at checkout
  • Fix: with “Tracking Email” off, tracking is also left out of the Processing and Completed emails
  • Fix: the order-screen rate dialog offers only your enabled carriers and includes prepaid US duties, matching checkout
  • Tweak: notices appear only on the Plugins, WooCommerce Settings and order screens, and the setup reminder can be dismissed

2.0.3

  • Privacy: cross-border checkout quotes send only the product details needed to estimate duties, never the customer’s name or street address

2.0.2

  • New: shipping to the United States is quoted with the prepaid US duties and taxes included, and labelled, so shoppers pay them instead of the store

2.0.1

  • Fix: shipping is now quoted to shoppers before tax. Stores that charge tax on shipping were charging GST/HST twice on the shipping line

2.0.0

  • New home: now published on WordPress.org as “sure-as-ship-for-woocommerce”. Activating it switches off an older copy installed from sureasship.com; settings carry over
  • Fix: every order-screen and settings button (Book, Void, Test Connection, returns, boxes, locations) did nothing because the admin script failed to load
  • Fix: the store-wide settings page was hidden in recent WooCommerce versions, leaving nowhere to enter an API key
  • Fix: label, QR code, return and customs document links now open; they previously failed with “Missing API key”
  • Fix: saving a shipping zone’s Sure As Ship method no longer erases your ship-from locations and boxes
  • Fix: orders placed at the fallback rate can now be booked with “Book with Sure As Ship”
  • Fix: choosing a different default ship-from location now sticks
  • Fix: common carrier box sizes are no longer saved as your own boxes just by opening the settings; they are offered unticked
  • Changed: auto-booking runs in the background and retries temporary failures, instead of slowing down checkout
  • Changed: checkout waits at most 12 seconds for rates, and briefly remembers an outage so shoppers are not kept waiting on every change
  • Changed: the fallback rate is only shown when Sure As Ship is unreachable, never for a destination or cart that cannot be shipped
  • Changed: default dimensions and weight are in inches and pounds (12x8x6 in, 0.5 lb) whatever your store units, matching the Shopify app. Stores using metric defaults should check this setting
  • Changed: products missing any dimension use the default box, matching the Shopify app
  • Changed: markup percentage is applied before the flat handling fee, matching the Shopify app, and rates are sorted by the price customers see
  • Changed: rates refresh as soon as carriers, boxes, delivery options or product dimensions change
  • Changed: the merchant’s cost is no longer included in the public cart data used by block checkout
  • New: customers get an email with their tracking number when a shipment is booked (can be turned off)
  • New: the cost Sure As Ship charged is shown on the order, with a note if it is higher than the checkout quote
  • New: Test Connection checks the key you typed, before saving, and shows the account name
  • New: rates are hidden, with a notice, when the store currency differs from your Sure As Ship billing currency
  • New: debug logging removes names, addresses, phone numbers and emails
  • New: uninstalling removes the plugin’s settings and cached data (orders keep their shipment history)
  • Accessibility: labelled form controls, a keyboard-operable booking dialog, and status announcements
  • Security: all output escaped, input sanitized, and document downloads checked against the order

1.8.9

  • Fix: a ship-from location saved without a country no longer falls back to the WordPress store’s base country at checkout, order booking, or re-quote
  • New: saving a ship-from location whose postal code doesn’t match its country now shows a clear warning

1.8.8

  • Fix: products without dimensions fall back to a 12x8x6 default box, matching the Shopify integration
  • Fix: every packed item’s weight is floored at 0.1 lb before rating

1.8.7

  • Fix: customs commodity lines carry each item’s own per-unit weight

1.8.6

  • Fix: the rate cache varies on the delivery company and city/state, not just the postal code
  • Fix: international orders no longer send an empty country of manufacture
  • Fix: free line items carry a $1 minimum customs value
  • Fix: the admin re-quote sends the same options as the booking

1.8.0

  • Fix: multi-box orders book as one multi-piece shipment
  • New: “Customer Pricing” setting

1.0.0
